Is there a reference book on silkies?White silkies are silkies if they match the silkie sop and came from two silkie parents
You can find much information by searching online. What you are looking for I think is the Silkie breed standard or SOP ( standard of perfection). I found this buried in many websites unfortunately most of them also have a lot of advertising. This one is legit. Is there a reference book on silkies?
Welcome to BYC!I was told that white silkies are a hybrid and are not true silkies. What do they mean by this? Are not all silkies some type of hybrid?
I believe there is a frizzle breed in the UK. Whether it's in their standard or not is another questionWelcome to BYC!
That's bad information you got unless possibly pertaining to a specific bird.. noting that the silkied feather gene can be bred into ANY breed even they are not Silkies. So you could have for example.. Silkied Cochins or silkied Orpington.. similar to the frizzle gene.. Though Silkie IS a breed and Frizzle is NOT as far as I know..
White Silkies I am familiar with.. are PURE white Silkies.. some not having the breeding quality dark skin color.. but that's a breeding quality issue not cause by crossing out or being hybrid but from how genes interact with one another.
