Good Afternoon,

I'm new to this and there are A LOT of different methods to feed your growing flock. None of which are wrong, just different. I just want a little more clarification I guess between breeds, as I know some tend to mature before others. So correct me if I'm wrong, the heavier breeds, like my Wyandotte's, I understand take longer to mature, i.e. slower growing, don't lay until 6ish months, etc. So my question is would the feeding regiment be different for the slower maturing birds?

My birds are 14 weeks old, up till this week they were solely on starter feed (New Country Organics, Soy Free, 21% Protein ). Most of what I've read says you should use starter feed till they lay, then switch to Layer feed. I read a few charts recently one from the NCO website saying after a month to feed them Grower/Broiler feed until they start laying then at that time switch to Layer feed. So the last bag of feed I bought was the Grower Broiler feed from them, and they seem to love it. Its at a 19% protein feed, also soy free. I also put a little bit of chick grit in there for them since they now are eating more of a grain than a crumble. I switched because I wanted my birds to put on a little weight, they seem light to me? but I have no idea when they should mature or gain more weight, id guestimate they are 2 lbs max at the moment(I haven't weighed them)? Being a dual purpose breed I thought maybe they would be heavier by now? Id appreciate your thoughts on this.... maybe I'm being impatient and/or overthinking things hahaha, im good at that:p.

Thanks,

WW

I love over thinking! Lol. I decided to stick with Purina and it says to feed starter until 18 weeks. That's what I did.
