There are probably many different opinions, but what are general recommendations?
 
Well, you need the roost tall enough for the chickens to be able to move under them (so say 18"-24" off the floor minimum) and you need roughly the same amount of space above the roost so they can jump up and down. So at LEAST 3' tall and extra height is a good idea so you can have ventilation at the top that doesn't blow across them when they're roosting.
