Genesis 1588 Incubator questions

Hi, I just got my Genesis 1588 incubator, and it is suppose to do a good job of incubating but what about a hygrometer do I need to get one?It said it all preset does that mean Humidity too.

I did, it is one from wal mart.

It has been useful since my humidity started out a 52%

I have kept a check on it and removed the red plug, dropping it down to 44%

I wouldn't have known that without a hygrometer

No, humidity is not pre-set. Go over to Wal-Mart and get yourself a hygrometer to measure the humidity... practice getting the humidity just right before you put the eggs in... then adjust again once the eggs are in, as that will change the humidity slightly.

Good luck! I kept my humidity at 35% in my 1588 and got a great hatch. My ambient (room) humidity was in the low teens, so if I kept one of the smaller pools filled, it stayed at 35/36%. I also kept the red plug on the top IN, despite the fact that many people recommended taking it out -- that's what seemed to work for me.

(Note: this is the dry incubation method. Do a bit of searching on here and see which one you want to try.)

I definitely would.

I have the same bator and actually have two hygrometers/thermometers that I use in it. You can get them fairly cheap and The Home Depot or even at Wal-Mart. This last hatch I did I bought a Springfield one at The Home Depot and paid like $7 for it. It did a great job!

Springfield precision like 6.74 at walmart. Great to monitor temp and humity. My temp has been spot on the whole time though. But you DO need it for the humidity. if its to high you can open the red vent plug for a little while and just monitor it until it drops to the desired level. Mines been in the 45-49 the last 10 days and i have great development so far.

Hey I just got one.It is a Hovabator 1588.I live in N.C. about 30 min.from beach at sea level.And I just have got done hatching.I had 11 eggs in it.It said to leave plug in.So I did,and 3 out of 11 hatched.1 almost did not make it,it was so dry in it.But there was plenty of water in there.And humidity was at 50% an I sprayed some more in it.It did not get on eggs.So I had 2 that had pipped and I was almost pipped out ,I went to bed.And woke up and that 1 was ozzining stuff out of it.The egg beside of it stopped,I don`t know what I done wrong,and don`t know what to do next time.The 3 that did hatch were plenty dry.But I got the humidity up to 63%-65%.Any ideas of what went wrong and what I need to do.I don`t have no idea. Hey there! what a coinkydink, My name is sandra too, but I haven't had a chance yet to incubate any eggs, so I have no idea what happened with your hatch, but I know everyone has said that you need to keep the humidity at a certain level, What level I have no Idea. But I know I got to get a hygrometer. Some more knowledgable people will come to rescue us and answer all our questions, I know I got a million of um. LOL Btw congrats on the babies you did get! oh and also I did notice that everyone seems to have slightly different hatching methods so I guess you try some out and find out which one works best for you. Did you get quail eggs with your incubator? The included 30 in with my incubator order, I guess just to try it out. That was way cool but don't know what I will do with the little guys providing they hatch! LOL

CAN'T WAIT TO START ON CHICKEN EGGS,!!
