Genesis 1588's ventilation?

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but...
if the red plug is "in", then where does ventilation come from in the 1588? The little tiny holes around the bottom seem like where its at, but if the bator sits on a tabletop, aren't those holes plugged by the table itself? Just wondering.

There is a hole right above the fan to draw air in. I have aquarium tubing in the vent hole that the red plug goes in. Then there are holes along the bottom.
