I have two hatchery light Brahmas. The male has a nice looking 3 row comb as pictured below. The female has the wrong comb (maybe modified walnut). I wasn’t planning to hatch out babies but a couple broody hens hatched quite a few Brahma eggs. Of the first batch two ended up with combs like the mama (both ended up being males). The female had what I thought was a nice single row pea comb but as she’s getting older it almost looks like a single comb. Is that possible? Please see picture below.
Of the second batch with 5 chicks one looks like it could be like my other pullet, 2 are like the mom, and 2 are three row pea combs like the dad.
Also on one of the flat combs the chick’s coloring looks off like it is darker and it has darker feet so may be some back genes in there. All others have yellow feet.
First off will the comb type just be random or could it indicate sex? Secondly if I keep a female of the correct comb what are my chances of breeding this incorrect comb type out?
dad
mom when young
is this a single comb or just a pointy pea comb? Chick is about 9 weeks old
another angle of comb
one of the males with a similar comb to mom
