Hi, I am very interested to know how genetics work in chickens, i would like to know what traits pass on to baby chickens from the parents. As in what does the rooster pass to its offspring as well as the hen in chickens for layers, and for meat(Size of chicken, color of feathers, mostly relating to chickens for meat)
Thank you!!

In alot of ways it depends on what 2 chickens you are crossing. Example: If you cross a (white) Delaware hen with a (red/brown) Rhode Island Red Rooster you will get Red Sex Links- The pullets will be red like the father and the cockerels will be white like the mother.

I have crossed some RIR Roo and Buff Orph hens and have gotten some different crosses like all red looking Orps, some with an in between color of the red and buff and some that look like the buffs.

What are you planning on crossing?

Your question can not be answered on this forum. It would take a book to answer your question. If you have specific questions about crossing- that can be answered. The genetics behind chickens is complicated.
