Julie,

Hey didn't want to say anything earlier as I wanted to get them hatched first. But I have 7 Buff Orp hens with Blue Orp roosters. The chicks started hatching last night and so far all I have are Blue's, and a few black chicks that look like they have red or buff color around their faces. As soon as I take them out of the bator I will take pics and post them.

Miss Prissy,

Hey some of the chicks are turning out to be really pretty colored mostly blue with some buff coloring in the necks and some even have buff in their wings. I will try and get more pics of them tomorrow and post them.

What kind of complicates this is that the blue gene is only a modifier of the black gene (makes it lighter), so any other color genes a set of birds may possess won't be affected by the blue. You have to take into account how the combinations of the other genes work with each other to know what to expect from your hatches, and even though you may have a solid colored bird, it may have the genes for other color combinations and patterns that are being masked. Unless you are 100% certain of the genotype of your birds, you won't necessarily have a predictable set to colors to expect.
Do you think that through some hatching is posible to get buff color without black tail out of that combinations? Just curious to know
