I bought some olive egger eggs and they are from BA hens covered by a BCM roo. They are hatching now and some are black and some are chipmonk. I was expecting blue and black chicks can someone explain why I'm getting chipmonk chicks?

I might add that they are light colored chipmonk not the reddish looking like wellies or RIR

No one else? Have any suggestions? I figured if the roo or hens were muts I would get mixed results but so far they are either chipmonk or black!

Still could be of mixed background. I would expect though the chipmunk look could come from the BCM. This is just a guess, I have no experience with Marans breed at all.

I have since learned that if the BCM is recessive wheaten (not uncommon) and the BA are recessive duckwing this could happen.
