genetics for ginger red color

It looks to me like the Hulseys are Wheaten plus Db- dark brown, plus what seems like Dun-would that be right?
I know there seems to be some lack of agreement out there on how that color is made..

I have some Ginger Red Japanese bantams-neat color.

I believe my question is probably the same as what I'm wanting to know which is what would be the best color to cross a ginger red too to to bring in more genetic diverity, I am wanting to work on this color in Wyandotte bantams and I have a pair of Ginger Reds Wyandotte Bantams that I bougth from a guy that had a 4 year project going on them, and they still need some work and I dont want to breed a whole flock from one pair so I am wanting some genetic diversity brought in and work back towards the color ( which is what I think Aubrey is wanting to since I believe he only had a pair or trio that he originally started with) So if they are BBRed plus Dark Brown then he may want to breed them to his BBreds since he already has them too, but since Wyandottes dont come in the Duckwing based BBRed, would it be better to cross them to Partridge Wyandottes or Buffs ? ( since I believe I've heard the solid Buff color carries Dark Brown too ) And Aubrey also has Buffs he could use if buffs would work. And then of course I want to breed silver into them and make Silver Gingers eventually and knowing Aubrey, he'll probably make Silver Ginger dAnvers too, then Blue Ginger and Lav Ginger and Dun Ginger and Mottled Ginger and Pink Ginger and Green Ginger and any other Ginger he can figure out how to make probably lol

I think buff would be a better color to cross to, if you cross them to Partridge Wyandottes you would have to deal with the Pattern Gene which would make a lot of pencilled birds. You could cross the Ginger Reds to Buff and then breed the F1s back to the Ginger Red pair and you would get a percentage of Ginger Red.

That's one way I am putting new blood into them, using my best blues and duns to breed over them, then keeping back the black versions for new ginger stock.

You forgot the barred ones though, I think they are going to look awesome

Chris- Thanks. I do know the history of how the P.H. were made, I meant the genetics behind that coloration, not the history of the strain. I have a lot of respect for your opinion on genetics, etc-you sure know more than me-do you think there is dun at work in that strain?

RAREROO- Ok, about my Jap bantams-they are all culls my Dad has given me. He got himself some "project' Japanese Bantams a few years back, there is some percentage of OEGB in there, he worked with ginger and silver ginger for a while, and then got rid of them. What I have are just culls of culls, in essence, and not very nice-they are just lawn ornamenst to us. My Dad had better ones, but, no longer, and I don't have any pics of his better birds. Also, I cannot get these wild crazy little buggers to pose, so sorry for the crappy pics. Well, this is what we have left-

This guy is 4-5 years old, beat up a bit in fights over the years. He has long legs, and his tail is not high enough angled, but, his color is really nice.

Old ginger red hen-Her legs are short, but her legs are the wrong color, and her tail is bad. She is beat up from being around 6 years old. the color is nice, however.

Just a mutt-but, silver ginger color.

Is Ginger Red genetically and phenotically (<I think I might have just made that word up. Thought it was genetically's equivalent to phenotype..?) the same as Chestnut red?

actually neither at the moment Clint. I already have a ton of them in d'anver, so have just been working them with the blues and duns so far this year to do those other patterned colors you mentiond and in the end get some new normal phased ones too.
I probabley will though later on this year just to see what happens. Mainly needed to know their genetic make up and all, was wondering if they had mahogany in them really as some of mine are DEEP red bodied. Was hoping to make black laced reds eventually and was wondering if they would have worked, along with a few other red based colors I was wanting to work on.

Yep the breast of my Wyandotte roo is just as red as a RIR.
