Okay, so you've started your own flock. You have roosters and hens that are mating with eachother, and chicks hatching and they're all mating mating mating. Well, they are mating with their family, then, right? I just realized this, LOL! How can that be?

Chickens have no morals - or at least very different standards from we humans. Used to really bother me, now I just think of the genetics.

chickens also have more chromosomes which means they can be inbred much more without running into problems, and of course, like what has been mentioned chickens dont know any different

For a sibling mating, no more than one. For a mother to son or father to daughter, six at the most. But all depends on the quality of your stock.

yeah... i heard only F1 for siblings, and F6 for offspringXparent breeding...

it gets complicated, but with adequate room and good organization, it can be easy... just hard to do if you have multiple breeding projects...

I have a white cochin rooster but no white cochin hens. I was wondering what i would get if i crossed him with one of my buff cochin hens. can anyone help me on this situation?

Well I've read that white cannot completely cover red, and buff being a tone of red, I would say that you'd gett mostly white birds with alot of buff leaking through. Just guessing, now.
