I do not know very much about bird genetics. Does anyone know of a good place to learn about them? Does any one know what it takes to breed a gold star hybrid duck? How do you make a mini standard? Like how did they develop bantam white rocks? Could you reverse this process and make a bantam into a standard?
Thanks.

Try the world poultry science association. I find interesting links here sometimes and good info. You could also try individual breed clubs.

Roy D. Crawford: Poultry Breeding and Genetics.

This is a simple text that may be a useful first step.

BTW, a bit off-topic but Crawford writes, pp. 1035-1036, that "laying records achieved by pure breeds such as Light Brahmas, Columbian & Barred Plymouth Rocks, Brown Leghorns, and White Wyandottes would rival the best of today's hybrids, but these breeds lost out because of lack of flock consistency."

In addition to those who breed for exhibition, fighting etc., it would be wonderful if there could be a meeting of minds of those who would like to revive pure breeds for their utility functions [meat, eggs] and breed flocks and strains with the original intent in mind.
