I am ordering some keet and want to raise them in a pen till about 6 weeks and then want to let then out for the rest of there lives in my fenced in backyard .

My question is will they come back if I let them out or will they just run away this is my 1 time with geineas?

Guinea fowl are not like chickens and tend to do lots of wondering. Guineas are also Very good at flying. Almost had one fly away on me It will take a while but if your backyard is fenced in then I think you'll be fine Just so long as you clip their wings until they know where home is.

We let ours free range and they did not run away, but they ranged in an area over an acre. Yours may want to range in an area larger than your yard. How big is your yard, and what is on the other side(s) of the fences? They can fly well and like to roost in trees. Ours never went back to the coop, they slept in the trees around our house in all weather.

I think that size will be fine. They don't want to run away, they'll know where their home is, and who feeds them.

Best thing to do is train them to your call (voice, bell, whistle) & millet or scratch while they are in the pen. I would do this when they are old enough, for at least a week or two before you release them. This even worked for ones I bought as adults, which people said would not work for adults raised somewhere else. You want them to recognize that each & every time you call, they are going to get something good.

Where do you live? Usually you can get guinea keets where you get chicks, such as a feed store, hatchery, or an individual selling them.
May I ask, why guineas and not chickens?

I live in new roads LA and I already have chicken and just wanted a few genieas with them
