George the rooster is in a bad mood...

Hi all, my question is: do roosters go into a bad mood when spring approaches? George is two years old and for the last week he's been skittish and if I go anywhere near him he flaps his wings or tries to peck me. He's mating a lot and seems overprotective of the hens and follows them in and out of the coop (he did this when one hen went broody last year but there are no broody hens at the moment). I have to walk around carrying a shield

Probably hormones! It is that time of year and I have noticed my little silkie rooster has been attacking my feet every chance he gets as it starts to warm up while during the entire winter he was a cuddle buddy. Roosters are so weird

It’s normal. Escort services are part of his job, and since he’s not attacking you he’s being a good boy also. Sounds like you have a good relationship, I encourage you to ignore him like nothing is new and leave the ladies alone.

Thanks. I'm hoping he'll settle down again one the weather decides if it's winter or spring I was worried that he was in distress or hurt. Given a huge allotment to play in and he hangs around the coop!
