Hello people.
My 3 young Plymouth Barred Rock pullets are due for their first dose of worming medication. No visible signs and they seem ok but I just wanted to get it done before they push out their first egg.
From what I have researched, there seems to be three that are the most widely used

VETSENSE KILVERM which gets mixed with their water

VETSENSE FLUVERM is powder that get mixed with their food

VELLA STOCKFEEDS CHICKEN WORMER MP which is a pre medicated pellet that they eat on its own

Would love to know what type you guys use for little ladies and maybe what type to stay away from.
Or maybe there is something I have overlooked....

Thanks chicken lovers.

Am I correct that you are in Australia? What are your climate and temps like?

It is best to have a fecal float done to test for worms before deworming. That way you won't use dewormers unecessarily or use the wrong dewormer. Doing so could create drug-resistant worms. I never deworm preventatively for this reason.

Ok. I see your point. Nothing worse than worms that won't die. I was suggesting taking a proactive approach. Its all still new to me. And yes, I'm posting from Australia.

The best way to prevent parasite infestations is to raise your birds in a healthy, low-stress environment. Don't overcrowd, keep the coop clean and dry, have a dust bath available at all times, and feed a good quality feed.

However, certain climates do require more frequent deworming. In that case I would test regularly for the first year or two to get an idea of what you're dealing with and how often you should administer the dewormers.
