i have 2 flocks of chickens one has 30 hens and roost in one coop. And the other is a flock of 16 pullets and one roo that were born in March and live in the other coop.
They share the run area which is rather large
The 17 stay as a group and mostly stay away from the 30 hens which shows them whose boss as needed
I am going to get a 2 yo roo this evening to be apart of the 30 hens because I have broodies. We are picking him up tonight about 8:30
So my question is do I put the new roo in with the hens tonight:eek:
Or do I keep him separate and for how long
Thanks

Best to keep him separated away to where they have no contact for good too assure he has no sickness or parasites ,maybe five days or a week.
Than after that try and reintegrate him through a cage for about five days, after that let them loose.Gurantee there will be fighting but just let them settle things the only way they know how and soon enough you will have a happy flock.

How large is 'large' in feet by feet'.
Can you split the run to keep the 2 flocks separate until the new cockbird is integrated?
How old are your pullets and cockerel?
2 males could be big trouble.
