A toque is a small hat.

I use olive oil. I have had a roo that lost most of his comb and wattles to frostbite (before I knew how to prevent it and also could not get him to come in from his tree roost at night). If you have to get a hold of him for urgent treatment, grabbing the legs and holding him upside down usually works. Some birds can do a sit-up, so keep an eye on him for sure if you try this!

No, it does not.
There was a post here recently of someone who did the Vaseline and still got frostbite.
I wish I had saved that post, it was the only one I've seen that 'proved' it.

I’m glad to hear that because I put Vaseline in the past and I noticed that it did more harm than good and after that I left them alone and and I notice a little black tip it didn’t progress more than that healed and they are fine

My tiny Serrano bantams are kept in a run covered on three sides and with corrugated clear plastic sheets on the roof. They don't like the wind blowing on them or a bit of rain. Last winter we did have a day or two with snow and they only came out of their cosy coop to eat and drink. The temperature has been very mild so far so I don't have any of the problems you poor people living with such cold climes have. I do, however, find it all fascinating and so enjoy reading all the information. I don't think my chickens are real compared with all yours or maybe they didn't get the memo!Hope you all had a fab Christmas and wishing you all happy New year!

Thank you so much for the well wishes, we just got some new tiny bantams! Yes, they are tiny! We have tons on ice and snow here...the last two days it’s been in the 40’s and we still have about an inch of ice covering everything..it is sooo treacherous! We had to put gravel everywhere! We’re hoping for a few more warm days. My hubby built a part of a new coop as a surprise Christmas present..going up a tiny icy hill with my 21 yr old son was so hard because they had no traction! They got it they though! Now my chickens have a 12” ceiling and he’s only started!! Anyways..I am just leaving the combs and waddles alone so I don’t do damage....

I've noticed some of my girls tuck their heads under their wing when they sleep. Don't roosters do that? especially when they should protect their comb?

When I need to catch a rooster or chicken, I do so with a large landing net. Go to a place that sells fishing tackle and look at landing nets with long handles. Walk in with the birds and quickly put the net over the one you need. You can now, safely, grab the birds legs to restrain it and remove the net. It's quick and less stressful than trying to catch them any other way. As the rooster is a bad one, consider replacing him. There are nice roosters to be had and you don't want to be hatching eggs from a bird with a bad attitude.

My roo gets frostbite on his comb. I leave it alone and he grows it back in the summer.

I would do something about your roo. I'd put him in his place (treat him like a rooster would, chase him, "peck" him with your hand, boot him if you have too, and show no fear.) He's attacking you because he wants to establish dominance. If you put him in his place he'll stop attacking you. That or send him to freezer camp.
Just my opinion.
