Hey everybody! First time hatching chicks on my own and I'm a little worried. I'm on day 21 of incubation with three out of nine eggs in the bator.
I had one chick hatch marvelously yesterday in about 6 hours, and she's doing great. But theres no signs of anything from the other two eggs. I know its still only day 21, but I've read that most batches hatch within 24 hours of each other, and I've yet to see one pip from my other two eggs. Should I be worried? Since my first chick hatched early, is it okay to remove her tomorrow?

Thanks you guys, I really appreciate it! This is my first hatch without the guidance of my family and I just want everything to go perfect!

I think that you have the right idea, I would leave her in the incubator. She/he can "cheer" on the other two eggs. Do you hear peeping at all from the others?

I wish! I hear a lot of peeping, but I'm pretty sure its just my hatched chick. I couldn't honestly tell the difference- he/she peeps so often and so much that I couldn't tell if it was the ones in the egg unless I watched really closely. The one that hatched seems to be pretty lively- I cant think of any reasons why the others wouldn't be the same!

She does seem to sit next to one of the eggs pretty often though- and knocks it around more than I'd like her to. Could this mean she can hear the other chick inside the egg when I cant...?

People argue about this all the time, lol. I can tell you that every time that I have incubated eggs, the hatched chicks seem to swarm to the next egg that is going to hatch. That is what I call "cheering them on". When I help local people with their hatches, they say the same thing.

By now you should see pipping?!?!

the first of the hatch yesterday spent the morning in between naps stumbling over his hatch mate eggs tweeting ,telling them it was time to come out. There was no doubt that was what was going on. So when he was moved to the brooder another one took over his job.
Now the oldest one is in the brooder showing the others how to eat.
There is no doubt he is big brother.

thank you so much for the encouragement! When I left for work at 6 I didn't see any pips, but I'll let you know if I see anything when I get home!
Hope it's all true and little Cassidy is cheering the others on! :)

Awww, lil' Cassy-cakes is cheering, hehe! It's fitting, considering she probably looks like a mini pom-pom.

Please keep us posted! This is nail-biting...

No pips! :(
I'm discouraged, but not giving up! I took Cassidy out of the incubator- she's been in there two days now and I think she needs to be moved to the brooder.

Trying to mediate her arrival into the brooder will keep my attention enough not to worry so much about the eggs.
Now I can bite my nails over watching her try to integrate into the pecking order of my week old Buff Orpingtons. I'll be sitting here in front of the brooder on my laptop all night!

Still nothing! Day 22 and not a peep that I can hear.

But the good news is that Cassidy, my one hatched chick, is feeling right at home with my week old Buff Orpingtons. She still has a little trouble with my biggest, most dominant Buff (Chief) but otherwise she sleeps, eats and runs around with everyone else (they dont seem to notice that she's an Ameraucana and a totally different colour from them)! I have high hopes for her, but I'm wondering if I should consider purchasing some more chicks of her breed and age to keep her company...? In the case that her brothers/sisters dont hatch.
