I left the 5th one in the incubator by itself and took the tray out so it had the whole space. We left Saturday morning for a wedding and came home last night (Sunday). The chick was upright and making all sorts of noise lol. I found an old spaghetti jar lid and put some water in it and set it in the incubator. It found it right away and drank water. I set some chick starter in there too so it could start eating. I just set that down in there so its harder to tell since I likes to run lol. It definitely didn't fluff up like the other chicks (im guessing the stuff inside the membrane dried to the chick). I was really nervous about leaving it and had considered having my husband put it down before we left. It was doing so much better when we got home. I think going forward ill try to have the mindset of letting nature take its course but it was so hard when this little one had pecked open the whole in the shell and I could see its beak and it chirping.Thankyou for sharing. How is your little one doing?
The one I help out of the shell was really in a bad way (although there was no bleeding or anything, it seemed to come out ok), but couldn't walk at all. It never fluffed up at all. I euthanized the poor little thing today (my first time), no wondering if it would have been kinder to just let it not hatch. I never knew raising chicks would be so difficult :-/
Im so sorry to hear about your little one
