Getting a turkey

I’m thinking of getting a turkey, what would I need for it? Should I get male or female for thanksgiving dinner? Can I feed it chicken feed/all flock? How do they roost? Can it be in with my chickens? I know nothing!!!!! All help and advice appreciated.

Are you talking about raising one for meat? Definitely need a game bird starter, and you should probably get at least 2. They are best raised away from chickens and kept separately.

If you are getting ones for meat you would want broad breasted. They should not roost more than a foot off the ground because they are prone to leg problems from rapid growth.
