i want to get a pair of pigeons to live in my chicken coop but i cant find any pigeon chicks for sale, only adults. If i bought a pair of fancy pigeons and then kept them in their loft so they wouldn't fly away until they had a babies would they come back home if i realesed them and trained them. Would the parents eventually try to wean the babies and force it away or would they all live as a family?

Pigeon chicks are NOT readily available like other classes of poultry. Pigeon parents feed their offspring first crop milk then more solid food untill they are weaned. You can become a foster parent to an orphaned chick and feed them every 2 hours throughout the day if you are so inclined. Might get tiresome pretty quick. Fancy pigeons simly can't fly very fast or only for short distances and sooner than later become dinner for the local hawk and/ or falcon, as well as other numerous predators like your puddy tat. Have fun.

You should keep them penned up for a few months.. Even better. If they pair off and start to sit on eggs. Thats the best time to let them out because they wont go far from home. Thats what I did when I got my pigeons. I waited till they were setting before letting them fly.. I only lost one to not coming home..
