I'm considering getting back into chickens, and I'm not sure what breed to get, I used to have black austalorps. What was your guy's first breed of chicken?

Get some sumatras or turkens!

Some good, calm, great layers that we have are:
Black Australorp
Barred Rock
Red Sex Link
Silver Laced Wyandotte

and a Rhode Island Red that turned mean when she started laying but really just needded more space (we live in total suburbia).

Hope this helps and

The first chickens I ever had were not a breed I can put a finger on.

But then, years later, when we moved here, which was 20 years ago now, we first got buff orpingtons, barred rocks, black australorps, and some mystery red hens.

The first 3 breeds are still the base of my flocks, though I do like to experiment, and in June am also getting:

Buff rocks, partridge rocks, red stars, light brahmas, a golden laced wyandotte, a blue lace red wyandotte, a buttercup, and dominiques. I may be forgetting one or 2, as this is off the top of my head.

I'm glad that you're getting chickens again; have fun!

We originally owned Black Australorps (raised from chicks) and some white chickens we bought at their prime, we're looking for layers.
Rocks of any kind seem to be a good choice. My sister wants a Rhode Island Red but I know they get aggressive, maybe once we're used to them again.
Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the advise everyone:D
