I grew up with a dad who grew a great garden, and raised chickens, pigeons, sheep and rabbits. I hated it, but that may have had more to do with where we were living at the time. Now I‘m 65 and finally learning to love what Dad did. So, I‘m looking forward to getting some chickens in the near future so I can help feed my fellow San Diegans. I hope I‘ll be able to get some help here from others in the area on what breed to go with, and other things that might be different between raising chickens in San Diego as opposed to Kanab, Utah.

:frow Hi and welcome! Your upbringing sounds similar to mine, we had a garden and livestock but I loved it! Married a city boy so that was on hold for many years but now I’ve got my garden and chickens.
I hope you enjoy your time here, there are wonderful people from all over the world sharing their experience!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens, it's great to have you here. If you are in Utah, we have a great member/moderator NFC who can definitely give you advice on raising chickens there.

Thanks for the compliment Diva, but I'm in Wyoming :D
