It's been long time coming but, after retiring from Big City life, I'm finally home at 68, taking care of dogs, cats, barrel horses, and did I mention Chickens? I picked up my guys at tractor supply when they were couple days old. 6 Leghorns (2 straight run, 4 pullets) and 4 Andulasian (straight run). Haven't been around chicks since I was 5 with my Gramma. I remember so many things she taught me. Watching them grow in a ready made coop was great. Feeding, checking water and visiting them everyday, letting them get to know me. It's all been great and I was thinking about throwing them a party for their 4th month and they surprised me!! I got 3 small eggs + one the size of a large olive. So I guess I'm going to have to build nestboxes now, sooner than I expected. Thanks all you chicken farmers and wannabes on your experiences, reinforcing what Gramma told me. Couldn't have done it without you! --Terry Frick, ENC

Welcome here! Sounds like you're settling in to live the dream life! Great that you're still remembering what your Grandma told you when you were young, and get to put that out in practice. Shows what an impact animals have on kids. As well as adults of course. :)
