Hello all, I'm here in Missouri and we are about to start building a coop and run for our first chickens. We have a family friend who has had chickens for a long time and we occasionally take the kids over to gather eggs and harass the chickens. When visiting last week, she had recently received a new shipment of babies to replace many of her very aged birds. They messed up her order and she got about 20 more that she wanted. So, semi-jokingly, she asked if we were ready to raise some chickens. After an immediate and unanimous "YES!!!!" from the kids, my wife and I discussed it and agreed. We had talked about this a bit in the past and thought it was time. That being said, being located within city limits, we are not allowed to raise livestock of any kind, so we visited my Father-In-Law to see if he wanted in on the action. Having raised pigeons in the past and also wanting to raise chickens, he was all in. The babies will be ready for the coop sometime in October and our friend agreed to take care of them until then, so we have about 3 months to get ready. Instead of going the easy route and just buying a coop, we are going to build one, get the kids involved and hopefully build some very lasting memories. I plan to document the entire process and contribute to the amazing gallery here. I've seen a few designs that I like, but if anyone has any suggestions on types/designs of coops, I'd love some feedback.

Thanks,
