Getting chicks to eat grit.

So, how soon can they have yogurt and how much? My EE's are three weeks old, have introduced meal worms, but that's all. Would love to add other treats? How soon and what? Yogurt?

OMG I totally do the same thing with yogurt and they love it!

Thanks everyone for your replies.

It's nice to hear what everyone has tried.

I'm letting them go outside and they are bug-hunting, eating tidbits so I figured grit was a good idea. The only thing that works with the yogurt is when I smear it on the side of the brooder. They literally attack my hand when I do this LOL, so whatever works. They go into a pecking frenzy; it's like little piranhas with fuzz.

I just got tired of a messy brooder, tried bowls, leaving them in and all they did was kick shavings in or decide it was a nice place to flap into. I just wonder if they mellow out when they get older and everything isn't so scary. ;O

How much should I sprinkle in their food for 15? And how often?

I gave mine yogurt at 2 weeks, and they are crazy about it, especially when I swipe it on the brooder wall. The same goes for banana, if I smash it a little with my finger and swipe it on the wall they love it. I have also given them spinach leaves and they love that, especially my Leghorn chick and duckling. I fed them a voilet from the yard today too and they scarfed that down. They are pretty adventurous with food and it doesn't take them long to try something new. I have also been holding them like twice a day since they were only a few days old. As far as grit, we dumped a couple bags of construction sand in the yard this past winter and it seems great for them. It's good to introduce them slowly to things in the yard anyway and build up their little immune systems.

I do have a question. I will probably start giving them little bugs soon but is there any bugs that anyone has noticed they don't eat? Or shouldn't eat?
