Hi everyone.

I have a flock of 14 welsummers and 1 rooster.

And i was wondering if there is anything to feed them to make them lay darker eggs.

Thanks.

give them extra protein...mealworms, regular worms, etc. Even my old rir would lay extra dark for a few days after a good gutload of crickets or worms, or if they happened on a nest of baby snakes, etc. They would eventually peter back off to medium brown after it cycled through, though.

Its all genetics, nothing in the world that can make their eggs go darker except for genetics. Breed a roo that came from the darkest egg shell color to your pullets that has the darkest egg shell color also.

As time goes on, it will go lighter and toward the molt time, they will get very light.

bugs and all the goodies would be good for them but nothing to darken their egg shells.
