Getting Goat kids

Yes..That's why I'm a bit concerned about bringing home two more kids. I'm not really set up to keep the new goats separate from Fancy and Ozzy for any extended period of time.
We got the roof so she can't get up and out and now she jumps onto the playhouse so I have to move that so she can't get up and jump over the fence. She is terrible..🙄
Can't move the playhouse because it's frozen to the ground still too..
Oh yes, and quarantine is sooo important...even if you know they are tested clean...you should still do look, no touch.... integration issues are always tough! I need to move my pot belly pi, but I kno2 she won’t like it. So, I’m procrastinating.

The mamas and their kids today~ (Girl is the smaller buckskin and boy is buckskin with moon spots) Name suggestions? I was thinking Sugar for the little girl to go with Mama's name(Honey) But can't think of anything for the boy.

Oh my goodness!! Congrats!! My new goat, she’s all white, I just names her Sugar! She’s three mths old, and fat!! :). They are adorable!! You have to keep up something to go with the sweet vibe, but that has a boy ring to it, like Hershey, or, Chocho...hmmmmm, maybe google can help?

I'm not sure what I'm going to do? I really want Tori though..😳😔😕

I haven’t done it, but I’ve heard it’s better to introduce two new goats instead of just one, due to the bullying. You could try just getting her, maybe it would work? If not, get the other? Impatienve is not my thing...I’d have already gotten them!! :wee

Adult goats we always just added them and watched. There's some knocking around and fighting, but giving them enough room for them to get away is best.

Otherwise penning them next to each other for a bit works with supervised mingling similar to chickens.

Kids always take a good long time to add to adults

I never quarantined because most goat diseases show up down the road not right away. Things like abscesses, CAE, and johnes don't show symptoms for a while after infection, sometimes even years.

Don't buy unthrifty goats. Avoid sales barns and auctions, but that doesn't guarantee you anything though. Tested herds are best.

Well these are just a closed herd and not tested for anything.

Right!! We are pretty much done with buying....we’re going to take a few out to be bred next year...but that buck will for sure be tested! Then, once we get a buck from the the new kids, we’ll keep him too. This year we only got one buckling that can be our buck, for three goats, otherwise he’s related to the others. Would anyone ever think of breeding cousins? I’ve read a lot about line breeding, but I’m not sure it sounds...safe?

You can cross related pairs. I wouldn't continue to cross the offspring. Generally 2 generations is as far as I would go unless you see problems cropping up.
