hello everyone !
I have been wanting to get a flock of black copper marans for a few years and finally I will begin my journey! im picking up my first few birds next week. my goal is to create a functional flock(eggs and meat) but also try and breed to the sop. The stock im starting with is from green fire farms. I have done a bit of research and found that there are mixed opinions of them so I wanted to ask; where do I go from there? what are the defects this line is known for? what are the assets? id like to source another line to breed with but im not sure where to start. are there any reputable breeders here in the Deep South? I've looked at the marans club site and its alright but.... the breeders in the directory don't usually have websites and I get worried when they do and their birds are inexpensive. any advice would be appreciated.
