So, this weekend we built a temporary but practically palatial coop for our chicks. They’ve been getting pretty rowdy, and with 3 dogs the situation was shaky. Their new brooder/coop is 3x5 with a roost and room to run around. We kept the plate brooder in there since it was 55 last night and covered one end with a blanket to keep out the drafts. They’re happy and active this morning.
It’s amazing how much their behavior has changed upon gaining some space. They’ve started challenging each other for roost space and there is a lot of chest bumping going on, but no real aggression amongst them. I guess they’re working out the hierarchy. It’s interesting to watch.
The actual coop will be here on the 15th...I’m so happy to have my room back!
