I have a couple of things on hand, medication wise (some people have a whole kit). I have the Corid, a can of aerosol wound-kote, in case of pecking, neosporin withOUT pain reliever, and sterile saline, which i make myself. Just a little quick first aid.
OH, and yeah, wash your hands after messing with your chickens, and don't rub chicken poop in your wounds or anything, and you should be fine! Some people (sometimes who have no experience with chickens) will sometimes make chickens out to be these horrible disease ridden beasts. But they're not, especially the way most of us baby them.
