Our city is finally allowing chickens as of this coming tuesday and I finally can venture into this wonderful world of chickens. I have been doing a ton of research on the different breeds and building a coop. We can only have 4 hens so it has been hard as to what I want. There are just so many beautiful breeds. I think I have narrowed it down to silkies and polish. I found a man about 1 1/2 hours from me who breeds both so I am thinking about using him but he doesn't sex and I need only hens so I was thinking about buying extra maybe 10-12 total in hopes of getting 4 hens?? I just don't know how realistic that is? Anyone have any suggestions? I know there are some online places that sex but I called so many and they are all out of what I want until june and being miss impatient I want them NOW!!
