I'm pretty sure I'm going to get some new baby chicks soon! I already have a full-size EE and a Japanese Buff Bantam (SLW is going to a new home) I'd like to have a total of 2 full-size chickens and 2-3 bantams (Our city ordinances only allow 5 chickens total if their house is at least 25 feet from all the neighbor's houses, which ours is)

I'd love to get some breeds that tend to be sweet-natured. My SLW turned out to be a nasty thing, so I don't want to take my chances with those. My EE has a very sweet temperament, so I'm leaning towards getting another one. How about the bantams? My JBB is very sweet and calm, and I'd love to have more like her. Any other breeds (any size) you think I should know about?

I know handling the babies properly is key in taming any breed of chicken, but my SLW seemed determined to turn out bratty anyway.

Thanks!

Hi,
My EEs are the sweetest things and my Buff Orpingtons too, they will follow you around and try to even sit on your lap. The Polish bantams are mild mannered and come right up to us. Only ones I have that aren't super nice are my Cuckoo Marans, they have drawn blood twice on me lol. In their defense I was trying to get their egg

Our Cochin are kind of skittish and run from us but least they haven't nipped us

My grandkids go right up to the BOs and pet them it is very cute to watch em.

Most of my pullets are friendly. The friendliest by far is my RIR. My GLW is second friendliest. 2 of my 3 EE's are probably next in line. My BO is just starting to get friendly in the last couple of weeks. All of my birds are about 11 months old. My SLW is a little friendly but is down in the bottom third of the list.

I am getting 25 chicks to add to my flock in a couple of weeks. Out of those I am getting 3 - 5 RIR, 1 GLW, 3 EE's.
