Back in November I ordered chicks. Several were on my "want" list. I will be picking them up in May. I have had the Speckled Sussex and Silver Laced Wyandottes before. Everything else will be first time. I plan on having a Banty flock and Standard flock.
Anyone have any experience with these breeds? Anything to look out for?

Standards
Buckeyes
(Mottled)Ancona
Speckled Sussex
Silver Laced Wyandottes
Welsummer

Banty
Partridge Cochin
Mottled Cochin

I will have 1 Buckeye roo, 1 Partridge Cochin Roo and 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte roo.
More than likely I'll have a Speckled Sussex roo as well but we'll see what I get out of 6 straight run.

What would be some beautiful crosses? I was thinking if needed I can put my Anacona or Welsummer in with the bantys since they will be on the smaller side of the standards. Is it possible 1 breed can more more pushy or assertive with the others? I will observe and make adjustments as needed. Either way I'm very excited. It will be a fun summer!

I have heard that Buckeyes can be more aggressive, but I'm not sure how true that is. I've also heard that the roos can make some super unique sounds! I had one Buckeye hen, and she just always seemed to be a a few fries short. 😂
It sounds like a super pretty and exciting flock you're looking forward to, so congrats!!

I've never have heard about Buckeyes being aggressive, but I'll keep an eye out. I've had Rhode Island Red and Amberlinks before. Talk about aggressive...so I no longer have them. I'm excited about the Buckeyes, but if they wind up being too aggressive then I can always re-home them. I was really interested in their foraging skills and supposed mouse catching skills.
