The more I think about it I’m figuring the best option is to add on to my existing coop to make some more room. Current coop is 8x4x4, and my run is far from predator proof. My coop is solid, locked at night and predator proof from all but the biggest ones (Bears). My chickens free range from sun up to sun down and thankfully, (knock on wood) haven’t been the target of any predators yet in the area. I’ve attached pics of my main coop and the temporary one the pullets are in. The cockerel has been taking turns sleeping in both coops.

Well I run the roosts at an angle the long way, kitty corner to corner, then have some roosts go the other way. I have a short pallet up on blocks, with the nests on that. I frequently integrate birds, and have a multi generational flock currently. The birds have quite a bit of room, little scuffling as they settle for the night. They all roost at the same level.

I can walk into it easily, so I do think the height does make quite a difference for both ventilation and capacity.

How high are roosts?
If they run kitty corner I'd bet you can't walk all the way in?
Sure wish you could post pics of your coop.
