Getting pheasants.

i also have ducks in the same pen and everybody free-ranges yes even the pheasants free-range

Can I put golden pheasants in with chickens, ducks, turkey and guinea fowl. I was interested in getting a boy and 3 girls.

You can but over time the pheasants will die.Chickens carry diseases they can handle but will kill pheasants.Some say they have done it for years with no problems.I highly doubt there were no problems as pheasants are a little touchy,not to mention hi strung.Raise them right,keep them away from chickens,ducks,and turkeys and you can enjoy them for years.

What's the required ratio of females to males with Peasants? I know with other species of birds it differs. Would it be okay if we kept a male and two females?

its better to keep one male with 2 females god forbid something happen to one of the females then you still have a pair of them

It also depends on the breed.Some pheasant breeds will not trio,they only work in pairs.

We'll be getting Ring neck Pheasants, I was just weary because our ducks have a one male per 4 females ratio and our chickens have a 1 roo for every 10 hens. We'd strive for a trio probably, just in case something happened to the other female.

Just remember, a minimum of 15 to 20 sqft/bird and you'll do fine.

besides the disease factor there is the aggression factor. When I unwisely had peas and chickens at the same time during the breeding season my male peas would periodically go on hormone induced rampages and relentlessly chase the chickens. Peas are very closely related to the pheasants we keep and pheasants also go pretty nuts on hormones during the breeding season. My birds are all in their first year yet so they get along fine with each other but within the next month or so they will be divided according to species in their own pens as I don't want to try and referee what amounts to a bar room brawl. There are people who do alright with keeping chickens and pheasants together but in my experience it very much becomes a ticking time bomb.
