I'm getting 2 or 3 black and gold polish 8 week olds and I need help choosing the ones that aren't roos any ideas/tips on how to choos the right ones, the guy who's selling them has 7 polish and 4 polish crosses so atleast 2 hav to be girls;)

Search sexing polish here on BYC and you will get plenty of pics with the differences between cockerels and pullets, that is what I did when trying to sex mine. I can tell you that the pullets have a very rounded poofy crest and the cockerels have a more stringy/wild look. I have also found that, depending on the quality, that some gold polish have not as nice of crests so they can be more decieving. My white crested black polish all have the "typical" crests, but the gold ones are not as nice and compact on the pullets. And it may take longer than 8 weeks for the waddles and combs to show the difference. I would say that at this age if there is ANY red to the waddles and comb it is a cockerel. Hope this helps some, and be sure to post some pics when you get the new additions.

At 8 weeks old - Look for the comb, really. The males will have a slightly bigger, redder comb that will rise up towards the back. The females will have hardly any comb at all, and just above their nasal passages, there will be a saddle-like U shape. Otherwise, just sit back and wait to see who's got the stringier crest feathers and who has the more rounded crests. With laced Polish it is a little harder though, so if you feel unsure - Photos always help.
