We have a couple broody hens working on a small clutch of eggs. She's currently sitting in one of the main laying nests that the girls use. The new chicks will obviously have a difficult time trying to get up and down from that nest once they hatch.
How should we deal with that? Shoudl we let them hatch where they are and then try to move them all to a lower box or somewhere seperated from the rest of the flock?
We also are scheduled to get 25 meaties on or around the same time as the hatching. It would be cool to let our 2 broody hens raise them, should we put all the babies and the 2 mom's into the brooder for a few days or what? We're going to build a nice meatie tractor for them to grow in, maybe we should rush and build it this weekend and then when the hatch happens put them all into that new enclosure.
I'm sure there have been posts about this before, but I don't have time right this minute to search for them, if you could point me at them that would be great, or if you have information/assistance that would also be wonderful.
Thanks!
