Ok, So I am really trying to be patient, but its not working. My hens are all about 22 weeks old and I know that they are supposed to start laying but they aren't. All are healthy, on a good diet, have plenty of room etc. My husband keeps threatening to call Colonel sanders and have them turned into fried chicken.

I hear you. Mine are 23 weeks. 1 chicken out of 9 is laying. She has been laying since AUGUST 14!!!! That is 30 days. Granted, I am thrilled to have one egg a day, more or less, but my husband and I would like to share an omelet, and we have to hoard eggs for the whole week.

Sorry, but you'll have to have more patience. I have 8 that I got as 4 week old chicks on Mar 22 and just as of last week 3 of them are now laying. So they are 26-27 weeks old and 5 of them still have smaller and less red combs so more maturing to do for them I guess.

Remember back in high school when there were all those 'late bloomers'?? Those classmates who were the immature, undeveloped, not-so-popular kids??

Now think about that 20th class reunion when those 'late bloomers' had turned into knockouts!!!

Don't rush the girls. They'll come around for ya.

He said as he waited for his 22 week old pullets to lay their first egg.

I've got some 24 week-ers that are just starting to lay (my Brahmas). Luckily for them most of the other girls were earlier bloomers.

Hope you're getting eggs soon!

It is very difficult waiting for them to bring forth their first egg. I have two Black Marans that were born the middle of March and no eggs yet!! I told them they are going to be turned out of their coop if they don't start earning their keep! Think that will do the trick? ;>)

I hear ya & hope your eggs come soon.

I did not expect eggs till after Halloween, just from everything I have read. Mine were born the first week of May, and my BR laid her first egg at 18 weeks, my second BR started laying last week at 19 weeks. Both have been squatting for some time, but they had bright red combs & waddles as early as 17 weeks. I was surprised when I did find my first egg on Sept. 1st. But it took another 5 days for the next one, and another 5 days for the one after that. But then yesterday I got 2 eggs, and was shocked when I saw one in the nest box this morning & had a egg a few hours later. Am waiting to see if I will get a egg tomorrow from the one who did not lay today.

The other 12 are not even close to being ready, so I just have my two sweet BR to provide eggs for us to eat & excitement for my daughters when they go in and find a egg in the nest box.

If you build it, they will come, just give them time.

One of mine Marans has been sitting in the nest box every day since last Friday. She gets up and acts like she has done something amazing...squawking her head off. What a tease!!!
