Getting ready to expand

They do like to make a mess. LOL
That bedding sounds interesting.

My chicks are out of the brooder now, so no more dealing with shavings.

Just picked up 6 Amerucana's The farm supply store lets you hand pick your own, They just came in and I was the only one in the store yet... picked 2 of each color that were very active.... Been noisy ever since LOL
Showed each the water bottle and food... now to keep check on them to make sure they use the water.
Good luck with your chicks. I might have to try the poop free feeder. They always have bedding in food and water.

Congrats on your expansion. It's always fun starting out with new chicks. Hope your poo free feeder works good for you, let us know. Even with putting the feeder and waterer on boards or bricks, I think I had to clean them out a number of times per day. Oh well, they are not staying in the brooder forever and that time flies by pretty fast. Enjoy the babies while you can.

I have mine up on boards and they are being cleaned every 1 -2 hours

Update on the poop-free feeder, It is working as I imagined it would also the water jug is clean at all times since they cannot poop in them as they can with the traditional feeder and I was so tired of constantly cleaning them. The new chicks are growing fast and very healthy, strong and active BUT I have notice the easter eggers are a lot more skittish than the other chicks I have raised, they tend to run into the corner behind the feeder every time I go to the brooder. I pick them up one at a time and pet til they are calm, then get the next til I had them all... they will be fine until the next day doing the same think? I guess its their nature?

They sit on top of the containers but trying to plot how to poop in the food.... no can do !

That's great. I have read that it is possible to tame most chickens by daily handling them like you are doing. I don't do that with my chickens, but I can appreciate your efforts. My chickens do not want to be around me unless I have a bucket of food or treats for them to eat. Otherwise, they don't come near me. Except my ISA Brown, she jumps up on the ledge every day and waits for me to pet her or give her a little treat. I think she prefers a treat, but oh well....

Last year when i had easter eggers. They were very skittish. Daily handiling usually helps. But my chicks this year think dont like to be picked up. They are warming up to me but that is after almost 8 weeks of having them. I will have to try the poop free feeder.
