Getting ready to expand my flock from 6 to 12.. Picking up 6 Amereucana'chicks this weekend. So I got the tub ready for them. Made a waterer and a poop free feeder as I was tired of them sitting on top of the feeder last time pooping in the food.... this time it will stay clean, less mess as well for the water instead of the mason jar waterer.
** I may get some extra chick breeds as well, havent decided yet **

Let us know how the "poop free" works.
The issue with my chicks was the shavings. Always in the food and water.

The water bottle is suspended now and adjustable as they grow. The feeder if you have issues with shavings place it on a block of wood a little larger than the feeder itself, I used a 1x6 when they were small and changed to a 2x6 when they got bigger, its like a step to get up to the feeder so they naturally knock off shavings and cant scratch it into the feeder.

Just picked up 6 Amerucana's The farm supply store lets you hand pick your own, They just came in and I was the only one in the store yet... picked 2 of each color that were very active.... Been noisy ever since LOL
Showed each the water bottle and food... now to keep check on them to make sure they use the water.

I put them up on bricks and still had shavings in the food and water. LOL

ah they can kick it up regardless but it helps... Im not as worried with shavings as I am with the poo being all over the food. I switched to pellet bedding this round, its larger and heavier, nothing in the food yet, it is made from corn husks

They do like to make a mess. LOL
That bedding sounds interesting.

My chicks are out of the brooder now, so no more dealing with shavings.
