I did not see this thread until now, so have a late welcome to BackYard Chickens! I love Rhode Island Reds, and I hope you enjoy your journey with them, if you can successfully get the permission! Are you planning on getting a cockerel, or only females for the time being? Male Rhode Island Reds are known to be human-aggressive, so be careful.Hello Everyone,
I'm not going to start a new thread, but I do have an update about our situation.
Hubby and I were planning to get the chicken coop built and finished by the coming week, and we were going to get our Rhode Island Reds on the 14th of March.
Since we are "only" renting this cottage, though, we had to ask the landlord for permission first. He has never come back to us with an answer, so it looks like he does not want us to get the chickens. We don't blame him, because he had quite some challenging tenants before us. They had been using the conservatory as a waste collection place, and rats were attracted and all over the place – in the garden and inside the house
We will give it more time for him to get to know us better, and then ask him again about the chickens.
In the meantime, I'll hang around and keep on reading and educating myself (and hubby) about BackYard Chickens.
Thank you, again, everyone – for the lovely welcome and the replies.
