Getting Started in North Carolina

Hello all. The wife and I have just gotten started with our "chicken ranch." It started about 6 weeks ago when she stuck a picture of a tractor coop under my nose and suggested I start building one. I didn't even know at the time that she was ever interested. Well, I recently finished our coop, and obtained from my neighbor 4 pullets (?) at 16 weeks of age. Three are ISA Browns, and one is a Splash Cochin. We don't have any eggs yet, but enjoy interacting with the ladies. They love to eat blueberries from my wife's hand. I'm sure to have lots of questions as we go along here, but in the meantime I will read as many of the forum threads as possible.

to help keep predators out, you need to use 1/2 hardware cloth. Chicken wire keeps chicken in, but does not keep predators out. Raccoons will tear right through it.
