Hi my name is Laura and I am just embarking on building a coop and getting chickens. I was wondering which coop you would recommend building for a flock of 4-6 chickens in a suburban setting.

Nice to meet you Laura, glad you joined the BYC flock. Selecting a type of coop is pretty much a personal decision apart from one being able to stand up to weather extremes. Some folks like to have them match their house, so it blends in nicely with the neighborhood. It would be good if you posted on your state thread and asked what it takes for a coop to handle your climate.

Size is another consideration. Rule of thumb allows 4-5 sg.feet per bird IN the coop(excluding nest boxes & roosts. The enclosed run should allow 10 sg.feet per bird.

Have you visited the coops section above? If you find any style you like, you can adapt it to meet your needs.

HI :welcome Laura

Glad you could join the flock! Drumstick diva has given you some great advice so I will just say Hi!! The coop section does have some fantastic ideas, I love looking through at all the different ones. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coop_Designs

Wishing you the very best of luck with your build.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow
