Getting started/introduced to this Adventure!

Good day MY name is Rocko living in Lancaster, CA! I have a Ranch, Zoned A-1. Permits NOT required! I am seeking YOUR best advice and wisdom in beginning this NEW adventure! I suggest you start reading all the "Articles" click on link at top of page. That's the best place to start. Good luck!
 
Before you even start looking at getting chickens, get a coop/tractor of some sort built first and build it so it is big enough to hold at least 5 more chickens than what you think you need. If you think you only want 5 hens, build it large enough for 10.

Once you have your coop, then decide on why you want chickens. Do you want them just to have cute pets, for meat, for eggs, size, rooster or no rooster etc? From there, you can decide on the breed.

Lastly, decide if you want adult birds, pullets and cockerels, or chicks and begin the journey. All the articles here will definitely help and this forum will help along the way as well. GL
