Hello everyone!
Coming to you from PA, right outside of Philadelphia.
First time (kind of) chicken owner to-be... I am just having trouble locating a place to buy the birds! Two years back, we got four birds and it was very impromptu- no coop or run was build for them, and we ended up giving them away. Not because they were mistreated/ unhappy (our shed became their huge coop and they just roamed the yard) but because we did not want them falling in the pool. Now, everything is built and we are looking at getting birds in a month, but cannot find a place! I am not so sure I want to start with chicks OR pay a lot to get pullets shipped. Any ideas/ suggestions for someone in my location? I am willing to drive 1.5-2 hrs away if anyone knows a good place.
We completely forgot where we got them last time! Go figure...
Looking at barred rocks/ buff orphingtons or white leghorns. Would that be a terrible mix?
Any and all help is appreciated!
Thanks everyone! (:

Ps. I have looked at the buy/sell part of the forum, and will keep that in mind. As i said, I would rather not have them shipped and there isn't anyone too close to me selling right now.

go to 'where am I, where are you" to locate your state thread if you post on it you may find someone in your area that either has chicks or knows where to get them. They could also offer more personalized info on the type of coop that does best in your climate and breeds of chicken too.
