Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

The compost cubes look really nice, and I really like the beach fence. Perhaps it will stay a bit better too. Are you going to try to make your beach bigger by putting in more concrete walls further out to keep the sand in place?

Typically, by this time we have lost half our beach to the monsoon surf

last year Bernie put Bamboo posts down 4 feet into the sand, sticking up to the level of the bottom of the fence, about 8 inches apart and 20 feet from the fence.

they have reshaped the beach as we reclaimed sand during the calmer months and have not lost any.significant amount

building a concrete wall that can hold back surf is a huge undertaking in cost when renewable materials are available.

it can also be done without permits

ohh I totally envy you those compost area;s.........

in our warm, damp environment, compost develops in less than 8 weeks.

I will use 3 bays for compost, moving from one bay to the next eaxh month so that the compost gets completely turned and aerated.

The 4 bay will store sacks of sawdust I get from the local resaw mill to add to the poop.

The growers are now 92lbs at 12 weeks
