Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Adorable! Will you guys be milking or just breeding for meat? (I grew up with goats and have done a LOT of milking in my life, LOL!).
We plan to milk but its a long term project developing milkers out of local goats.

This was our fifth girl in a row. The odds of continuing being so lucky is slim but 50-50 on each birth. Four more to go.

@NotAFarm our buck was "free ranging". No real idea but within the next 2 months

I've been wanting to get a goat eventually... then I had some goat cheese this Christmas and it sure cured me. It tasted just like a goat smells

Is that normal? I've never had just goat milk.

Maybe I will scratch the goat and aim for a Jersey cow instead. All wishing at this point anyway

My kiddo is casein intolerant and the other kiddos dont do so well with lactose, so any sort of dairy may become a thing of the past. I absolutely LOVE dairy, as a proper Dutchy should.

Did you get the cheese at a store?

I have a friend that has dairy goats. The milk I get from her is excellent. No funny smells. She says it has to do with how they are kept. Does and bucks are kept completely separate except at the time of breeding. Store bought goat milk does not taste anything like the milk I get from her. I buy cheese from her, same thing, wonderful.

wow! oz, how many goats do you have in your farm? Are you also selling those?
They are a hobby project to develop dairy goats.

There are now have 9 females at various ages.

We will eat the 4 parent native and upgraded does once this batch of kids weans. Hopefully we will get another doeling this season to give us 6 does to breed with a Nubian buck.
