I have to come out of hiding here, I was going to keep on reading before I joined in, but there are so many people in here with you that has sooo much knowledge!  I can't tell you how much I am enjoying your journey, it's like reading a good book.  I have been keeping the page open for days so I don't lose my place.  I am waiting on pins and needles about the adoptions, and of course would love to have my own Bernie.  I am just beginning my adventure...I have two incubators going right now, my first ever hatch.  Who knew one could get soooo obsessed with eggs!  My first bator is a Hovobator with a fan, the second one is the LG still air.  I must ask all you experts here....which one would you rather hatch in?  The eggs in my forced air are ready for lock down tomorrow, the eggs in my still air will be on day 14.  Should I trade them around and hatch in the still air....so as to keep less drying out of the eggs because of the fan?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Oz, I can't tell how much I look forward to catching up on your story, I refuse to skip to the end, like I said it's like a book I can't put down!

Welcome, and enjoy Oz's adventures! I just finished reading the 11,000+ posts too, lol... His experiences and his sharing is so amazing!

To answer your bator question, I would suggest hatching in the still air... I had 1 forced air and 1 still air and did all my incubating in the forced and lockdown in the still... made for great hatches, but now I've moved to cabinets, lol... just my opinion, hope this helps...
Good luck on your hatch!! :)

Hey another Deb.... VBG. With regard to incubators I have a 1588 with fan and turner and have only incubated once with it about three years ago... so SO not an expert... But I do have to say I did the whole thing start to finish in the one incubator and had success. Well I consider it success when I put in twelve pullet eggs .... six from an Araucana pullet.... and six from my Guinea Fowl first timers... First time or pullet eggs often times arent fertile yet.

And the Guinea eggs had sat in the blazing sun for three days getting knocked about like soccer balls... Gotto love Guineas they wont lay in a nest box.

Double strike on the Arucanas.... they normally have a low hatch rate due to genetics even for the experts.... and Half of the Guineas were duds... But I got three lively loud mouthed keets out of the whole learning experience.... One Royal Purple and two Pearls.

So all i did was follow the instructions on the card.... and bought a good Thermometer/Hygrometer combo that was digital so I could set it on the shelf above the incubator and take readings without messin with anything. I used something designed for reptile enclosures.

There are other more expert big time here...

Good luck and happy Hatching.
