By slow boat?

This is the sow's first farrowing and we actually expected her to Farrow tonight or in the morning.Toto Ompoy had the day off but Ariel text him at 1pm with the first piglet. He came to the farm just now - after (3pm) and she had delivered 11. That's pretty fast for a gilt.

I am extatic as we will have our first keeper boar piglet along with 2 gilt piglets to keep for breeding

Hurray for the pig AND Toto who came back on his planned day off!

I'm betting jet lag hit him pretty hard...
so sorry

yes indeed

All 11 piglets are alive but one has some sort of rear leg deformity. I need to assess it but it has trouble walking. Its also the smallest of them so I may just cull it if it does not begin to thrive, Overall, we are very happy with the result with 10 that look viable.

I am awake at 420 am so my body clock is toatally messed up. Mrs Oz arrives on Wednesday so it will continue to be messed up for atleast another week. Thank goodness for 24hr walmart LOL

Back when we worked at Domino's and we'd get off work at 1 am. Grocery shopping at Wal-Mart in the middle of the night is some sort of guilty pleasure, I'm sure. It's a different world here, all the uh.. interesting.. people come out.

And Waffle House/Huddle House. Nothing like having breakfast or dinner at 2 am.

In an effort to increase hatch rates, we have moved from a weekly setting of eggs to 3 times every two weeks, in a 4-4-6 sequence. We dont have access to "ideal" storrage temps and the egg house is over 90F during the day. When Bernies was getting our best hatch rates we were setting every 4 days. because we ship day olds, we need to modify to keep it more uniform.

Apart from the one piglet that has a rear leg deformity, the piglets are all doing well. Today will be castration day for 6 of the 7 makes. One will be kept for a "training" boar - the first of our line.
